Aloha Region Power League

Get the latest information and results on the Aloha Region Power League.

The 2020 Power League will be open to U18-U15 teams for participation in the 36 team league this season.
Qualifying play will be starting in January at Kekuhaupiʻo Gym at the Kamehameha Schools - Kapālama Campus.
The league will end with the League Finals in April.

The 2020 Aloha Region Power League play has concluded 48 teams competing in 148 matches at 3 gymsites over the past 2 weekends. There has been great volleyball and energy as these teams are playing to qualify for one of the 36 slots in this seasonʻs tournament. The thing that makes this tournament so good is that every match matters and that all the teams were competing for every point in every match and there was a great atmosphere of competition this early in the season.

The first Power League tournament playdate (PL#1) is on Sunday, February 9th. There have been a few questions about our connection to the Hawaii Volleyball Combine and the Combine Showcase Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, 2/23. More information will be forthcoming from both our site and their site as the date approaches. Please check back for more information. 

Mahalo to all of the teams and players who brought a high level of volleyball competition to our gym sites for the past two weekends. Also to the supporters who made the gym environment a great one to play in. Mahalo to the coaches and club directors who continue to support our 10th edition of the Aloha Region Power League. Day 2 - Updates

Play in the Divisional Qualification rounds has started at Kekuhaupiʻo and Damien gymsites and there is great and high level volleyball going on. There is also elimination play at Keawe gym and starting at 2pm at Kekuhaupiʻo. These teams are competing for the final spots in our 2020 Aloha Region Power League. We just wanted to provide a logistics update for those teams who will be playing at Kamehameha in the AM wave. There is the Polynesian Bowl Junior and Senior Showcase happening at the Kunuiakea Stadium on campus. Their registration is at 8am and the clinic is from 9am-11am. Please be aware that parking may be a challenge so we are asking for your patience. Mahalo nui for your understanding.

1/12/20 - PL Qualification 2020 - Day 2 Assignments

Day 1 competition has completed with 48 teams playing 3 matches and the results have been sorted and re-seeded into their day 2 (Sunday, 1/12/2020) assignments. All teams were re-seeded based upon the teamʻs match %, set % and point % from the play on Day 1 (Sunday 1/5/20). The 1st and 2nd place teams (24 total) are placed into 8 team brackets for competition. The 3rd and 4th place teams (24 total) are placed into pods of 6 teams for competition. Please see format below and links to the online information.

Day 2 Divisional Qualification Bracket Play

The 1st and 2nd place teams have been re-seeded and placed into 8 team brackets. 
  • Bracket A: 1, 6, 7, 12, 13, 18, 19, 24
  • Bracket B: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23
  • Bracket C: 3, 4, 9, 10, 15, 16, 21, 22
Teams will play 3 matches and the overall finish will determine your qualification into divisional play for Power League Tournament #1 on Sunday, February 9th.

Day 2 Elimination Play​

Format
Teams will be placed into pods of 6 teams, 2 pools of 3 teams paired up for competition. Teams will play all teams in their pool, then a cross-over match with ʻpartnerʻ pool.  All matches are best of 3. First 2 sets to 25 points, no cap; Deciding set will be to 15 points, no cap, 2  30 sec timeouts per set.

Elimination Pools (Pool A - H)
All pool winners will qualify for the Power League. The winners from the 2nd place vs 3rd place cross-over match will play each other to qualify for the power league. Losers from the 2nd place vs 3rd place cross over match and the winner cross-over match (M3) losing team will be eliminated from the top 36 teams and not qualify for the 2020 Power League.

Power League Gym Logistics

In order to utilize the facilities for the Power League Tournaments, we will need all participants and supporters to adhere to these rules. Failure to comply may result in the loss of gyms and the power league itself. Please do your best to let all of your supporters know about these rules. 

Kamehameha Sites
Parking
Parking will be at the parking structure fronting Kekuhaupiʻo gym. Please be sure to park in marked stalls and follow all posted signs on campus. There is handicapped parking on the bottom floor of the structure. Please do not park in the Kekuhaupiʻo "turn around" area fronting the gym or the Keawe "turn around" area, it must be kept clear for security and/or fire access. Also, there is very limited parking at Keawe gym area and it will be reserved for handicapped access (placards required). All teams and supporters will be expected to park at the Kekuhaupiʻo parking structure and walk to the gym via the stairs. Coaches will be asked to support in enforcement of these guidelines. Non-compliance may result in the loss of the gym site for future tournament dates so we are asking for your kokua in following these rules.

Campus and Facility Rules
In order to continue to utilize facilities on the Kamehameha Campus, we are requesting that all coaches, teams and their supporters, abide by these rules. Please share this information to your team and the supporters.
  1. No Smoking  - Our campus is a no smoking campus and it is not allowed anywhere on campus.
  2. Food and Drink are not allowed into Gym Areas - All food and drink must be consumed outside of the gym areas. No Water will be allowed into the gym. 
  3. Chairs - Chairs with rubber bottoms will be allowed into the gym area for seating. Please abide by the facility manager and officials in the placement of chairs for safety purposes.
  4. No Potlucks/Setups – Per region policy - Only individual bag lunches/drinks area allowed. Our campus also has a “no cooler” rule for all athletic events on campus and we are requesting that all teams will abide by it. The tournament director will discuss with the coaching staff with issues for kokua with enforcement. This is important to share with your supporters as we do not want to jeopardize our facilities use for this league and in the future.
  5. Please do not set up in the areas marked as “no setup”- It will be marked off on the day of the tournament. They will be asked to move. We are going to be having a total of 42 teams in the two gym areas and please be mindful of your area and to allow space for all groups.
  6. Please break down immediately at the conclusion of the tournament play for the day. Please be mindful of your area as there are a few groups that have taken more area and not taken in account that there are many other teams sharing a very limited area. Please be mindful and considerate of your area and our facilities. Please place all trash into the proper receptacles and leave all areas clean.
Damien High School Gym - 1/12/20
The Damien High School Gym will be utilized on Sunday, 1/12/20. 

​Parking is available in the lot adjacent the gym area. The same guidelines listed above for the gym apply. No food or drink will be allowed into the gym area and there is no smoking on campus. Please be respectful of the gym areas and requests of gym staff in order to allow for itʻs use for Power League playdates. ​Non-compliance may result in the loss of the gym site for future tournament dates so we are asking for your kokua.
